CCW has gone through a particularly busy period at the end of this year. After a year of dedicated efforts, the opportunity for the gradual formation of the Asian Parliamentary Monitoring Network has finally emerged.
In November, we gathered at the University of Melbourne in Australia for a physical workshop. Parliamentary Monitoring Ogrganizations (PMO) and Civil Society Organizations (CSO) from eight Asian countries came together to share our individual efforts and the support we collectively require.
Simultaneously, we reflected on the efforts each country is making in focusing on or monitoring parliamentary affairs, contemplating the possibility of converging into a force that can be pivotal for democratic stability in the Asian region.
Consequently, during the Melbourne meeting, we delved into the potential establishment of the Asian Parliamentary Monitoring Network, and a month has already passed since then!
Today, we gather once again, this time virtually! All our friends are still with us, and more new members have joined! The Asian Parliamentary Monitoring Network has formally established a preparatory committee!
The official launch is anticipated in 2024, with hopes that the network's interconnection will bring about substantial changes for the stability of the Asian region! While the impact may not always be enormous, change has quietly begun! Gratitude goes to all the collective efforts from Asian countries!
Our dreams are grand and distant, but we are no longer just dreaming! We have taken the first step towards realizing our dreams!
Special thanks to Professor Akihiro from the University of Melbourne for assisting in bringing everyone together.
A heartfelt appreciation to Juan Francisco Krahl and María Baron from Argentina Directorio Legislativo, who graciously shared their experiences in coordinating the Latin American Network.
